Bloom Wellness Festival was founded by Emma Lodge. Her journey began in 2007 when a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. “I just wanted to help, and figured the closest thing I could do to make a difference was to fundraise,” says Emma. With no prior event experience, Emma created what became the largest Pink Ribbon fundraising event in Cairns. Held in the Shangri-La Hotel ballroom, the Pink Ribbon High Tea attracted over 200 guests and raised more than $10,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

What started as a fundraiser soon became a creative outlet. As Emma connected with women and breast cancer survivors, their personal stories inspired her to keep going. But after four years, her perspective began to shift. “I started questioning where the funds were going. I thought raising money would lead to a cure—but the deeper I looked, the more I realised there was a disconnect between funding research and how we actually live our lives.”Emma began researching and quickly became passionate about prevention. “We live in a toxic world. People would donate to cancer research, then go home and spray chemical cleaners or eat processed food. That contradiction became impossible for me to ignore.”This marked a turning point. Emma describes it as her “U-turn”—a moment of clarity that changed everything. Armed with new awareness, she started inviting authors and guest speakers to Cairns to host Prevention is the Cure seminars. She also launched The Organic Experience, a bus tour connecting people to local food producers in the Atherton Tablelands.
“The seminars were great, but I wanted people to experience the message—to feel the connection between food, community, and health in a tangible way.”Out of these efforts, Bloom was born: a vibrant, educational weekend event in Cairns that celebrates holistic health and empowers people to make informed choices. “Far North Queensland has so many incredible health-conscious businesses. Bloom became a way to bring them together and share their knowledge and passion.”Now over a decade on, Bloom is a thriving wellness event attracting expert presenters from across Australia. Emma also launched Bloom Magazine, a platform to continue the conversation and share wisdom from leaders in health and wellbeing.
“Creating the Bloom Wellness Festival and magazine was never my life plan. I honestly don’t know how I’ve done it all these years—except that I’ve been driven by passion, purpose, and a deep desire to make a difference. If Bloom plants just one seed of empowerment in someone, then I’ve done what I came here to do.”- (Emma Lodge, Bloom Founder)
